Netflix’s The Gentlemen TV Show Outfits: The Heir and his Spare, Meet the Horniman Brothers
The Heir and his spare Eddie and Freddy Horniman, along with a cast of other characters we introduced you to here, are the focus of Guy Ritchie’s latest venture back into the universe of The Gentlemen. But with no Mickey Pearson, Coach or Fletcher, instead the Netflix series centers on the world of old-money aristocrats playing in the arena of underworld gangsters. And there is no more fitting pair of “asset rich, money poor” aristocrats than the Horniman brothers with their country lifestyle, naive attitudes and rather luxurious and quirky Netflix The Gentlemen TV Show outfits. Let’s have a look at Freddy and Eddie’s wardrobes and steal their The Gentlemen outfits.
Eddie Horniman -The Heir and New Duke of Halstead
Summoned back to the family estate with his father, the 12th Duke of Halstead, on his deathbed, Army Captain Eddie Horniman is in for a shock. Least of all when the will is read, his older brother Freddy is disinherited and he gets the lot, including a new life as a criminal.
Eddie’s Simple Blue Check Shirts in Netflix’s The Gentlemen
If you believe in color therapy, which I am sure neither of the Horniman brothers do, then the use of blue represents reliability, calmness and stability. Which could be why the color appears in so many of Theo James The Gentlemen outfits. Particularly in the beginning when Eddie has become the newly minted Duke of Halstead instead of his squandering “liability” of a brother, Freddy.
But either way, it is easy to see that blue is a big part of Eddie’s wardrobe’s color palette, along with other modest and earth tones like creams and browns. However blue features prominently in his shirts, particularly if the calming color has been used as part of a check or plaid pattern on the simple long sleeve button-up shirts.

Even a simple walk with your fathers beloved labrador Luna while admiring your estate can turn into quite the eye opening experience when you encounter Susie Glass, the stylish drug empire running business woman, who’s The Gentlemen outfits could rival any aristocrat (and can be found here).
But they can’t compete against the Theo James The Gentlemen outfits when it comes to country charm and practicality, with the Army captain easily slipping back into his old way of life with a wardrobe full of waxed jackets. Perfect for the man about the estate with their deep and plentiful pockets, waxed cotton finish and designer Barbour name tag.

& Sons Trading Co. Knitted Wool Cardigan Worn by Eddie Horniman
Not as big a fan of knitwear as his brother, as we will see, when Eddie does go for the traditional knitted fabric he keeps his looks simple and sophisticated. Something that can be seen over and over throughout his The Gentlemen outfits, with him rarely going for anything that is flamboyant or loud. However, his & Sons Trading Co British wool cardigan has a subtle modern twist compared to his other crewneck sweaters. Especially with its mix of up-dated chunky knit and shawl collar, against the traditional leather buttons and elbow patches.
Theo James’ Corduroy Shirt as Eddie Horniman
Although Eddie knows how to turn on the suave and sophistication that you would expect from a Duke, he is just as comfortable dressed in his relaxed, yet expensive wardrobe of casual The Gentlemen looks. With his essential corduroy Scotch & Soda button-up shirt a perfect example, just formal enough with its fitted silhouette, long sleeves and collared neckline to be estate owning business casual. All while being a modern take on a traditionally out-doorsy and resilient fabric like corduroy, that is more commonly used for pants and jackets.
The Old-Money Tweed Suit Of Eddie Horniman in Netflix’s The Gentlemen
Thrown into the criminal underworld with an eye opening trip beneath his family’s estate, Eddie has to think on his feet. More comfortable slipping back into his aristocratic lifestyle, full of easy comforts, country charm and waxed jackets. But the simple Captain with his effortless Theo James The Gentlemen outfits, knows how to impress, and exude old-money with his brown check tweed suit. Made-up of three-pieces including a matching waistcoat, and paired with complimentary cotton shirts and ties, the criminals will do well to remember Eddie Horniman shouldn’t be underestimated.
In response to Luke’s request for the three-piece tweed suit worn by Theo James in the main photo of the Netflix series “The Gentlemen,” we embarked on a quest to locate this bespoke ensemble. Our diligent search yielded similar tailored options accompanied by compelling photos. As mentioned, the suit is handmade to measure. Recognizing the preference for ready-made “buy it now” alternatives, we’ve curated a selection that encapsulates Theo James’s distinctive style in the series.

Theo James Polo Shirts in Netflix’s The Gentlemen as Eddie Horniman
Only one step down from his checked and plaid patterned shirts Eddie knows how to work a simple polo shirt to look business casual. Keeping the silhouettes fitted, the sleeves long and the fabrics luxurious while sticking to his neutral color palette full of blues, browns and creams. Even opting for a modern and sporty version with his Lacoste navy blue polo shirt, to pair with his simple beige pants for a competitive game of golf and clubhouse business chat with Kaya Scodelario’s Susie Glass in Netflix’s The Gentlemen’s fifth episode.
Eddie Horniman’s Marant Gray Herringbone Overcoat in The Gentlemen
The clever thing about the Theo James The Gentlemen outfits is that they always manage to walk the line of looking modern, young and business professional, while losing none of the country-life, old-money charm that would be expected of someone in the position of Duke of Halstead. Just like with Eddie’s Marant gray overcoat, that gives you that feel through the check on the wool herringbone, while being in a modern longer length with a less tailored, more oversized fit.
Theo James Oliver Peoples Clear Frame Sunglasses in Netflix’s The Gentlemen
Not one for accessorizing his The Gentlemen outfits with traditional country life hats, like the flat cap seen throughout the show on characters like Gamekeeper Geoff Seacombe (who we meet here), Eddie prefers expensive watches and sunglasses. And only the best of both for the newest criminal on the Halstead estate with his Oliver Peoples Sheldrakes setting the Duke back a pretty penny, with their round clear frames and stylish green lenses.
Eddie’s Brown Houndstooth Lightweight Jacket
One of the big questions you probably pondered at the start of The Gentlemen was whether or not Eddie Horniman, the rather straight laced Army captain who was shocked to find out about his fathers underground side hustle, would be tempted further into the world of criminality and drugs.
However it wouldn’t be a stretch of the imagination to assume Eddie is all in, one way or another, especially wearing his tan brown houndstooth jacket. That sticks with the definite country feel through the brown colors and pattern. Yet reminds you more than a little of the tan Burberry check that famously became associated with hooliganism and chavs back in the day.
Eddie’s Wardrobe Evolution Through Modern Suits in Netflix’s The Gentlemen
One of the things that costume designer LouLou Bontemps, a past and future collaborator (they are both working on The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare) of Guy Ritchie’s, enjoyed most about the Theo James The Gentlemen outfits was their evolution.
Best seen in his formal, and classic suits that become more and more of a staple in his wardrobe as he is enticed further into the criminal underworld. Although he still favors his color palette of dark browns and blues, the suits and shirts that started out heavily featuring plaids and checks, are now in linens and simple plain cottons. While still managing to keep their tailored and luxurious feel, with expensive brand names.
Freddy Horniman – The Disinherited Spare
Freddy the eldest child and first born son of the Horniman family does not take the news of his disinheritance well, having the mother of all tantrums with a lot of swearing and paper throwing during the reading of his fathers Last Will and Testament. However with his substantial cocaine problem and the large debts he owes to a very scary Livepudlian gang, the senior Horniman’s choice is hardly a surprise.
The reading of the 12th Duke of Halsteads Last Will and Testament doesn’t go down well, especially when Freddy finds out he has been disinherited.
(NOTE: Laylah I’m not sure if you want to use this video as there is a lot of swearing in it so i will leave that decision up to you.)
The Garish and Chunky Knits of Freddy Horniman in Netflix’s The Gentlemen
Portrayed in the Netflix series with an ever decreasing grasp on reality by the wonderful Daniel Ings, Freddy Horniman the life long squanderer who expected to become the 13th Duke of Halstead leaves quite an impression, and not just for his behavior.
With a wardrobe full of quirky and eccentric The Gentlemen outfits, including a fondness for knitwear, Freddy seems to favor the most garish pattern he can find. From his relatively fashionable dark green Sunspel cable knit turtleneck sweater, that he pairs with deep red corduroy pants, to his old-fashioned and loud multicolored fair isle knit pull-overs. That perfectly reinforces the drug-addled Freddy’s flamboyant personality.
Daniel Ings Patterned Dressing Gowns and Robes of Freddy Horniman
It wasn’t too much of a stretch of Freddy’s imagination to fall into a spiral of depression, anger and despair at the loss of his inheritance. One that didn’t look all that much different than how he had been living his life previously, lording his family name over everyone and any situation. But this time round maybe he just looked a bit more unkempt, especially with his collection of well-worn patterned cotton robes and plaid fleece dressing gowns creeping into his everyday wardrobe.
Country Living: Freddy’s Tweed Flat Caps in Netflix’s The Gentlemen
Having lived a privileged life on his family estate, sponging off of their money and getting bailed out of his dodgy business ventures, Freddy lives the epitome of a country-lifestyle. With the traditional fabrics that one would expect like corduroy, tweeds and plaids, along with accessories like boots and flat caps. An item that makes more than a couple of appearances in Freddy’s The Gentlemen outfits, yet somehow when he wears his flat caps backwards they manage to make him look even more unhinged.
It seems like a stroke of genius that Guy Ritchie has brought us back into his The Gentlemen universe with the updated story of aristocrat meets gangster, with the Horniman brothers the perfect pairing for such a job. Especially with their quirky, and completely opposite personalities, views on the world and Netflix The Gentlemen TV Show outfits. With one a modern version of old-money country charm and the other an unhinged cockerel costume wearing drug addict, there is something for everyone in Eddie and Freddy’s The Gentlemen wardrobes!
