But this year sees Emily Blunt and Ryan Gosling teaming up to give us action comedy The Fall Guy (2024), which is as much a love story as a not so subtle salute to the stunt community. Jody Moreno, the first-time movie director is less than impressed when stuntman Colt Seavers, her ex-boyfriend who literally abandoned her, turns up on her movie set. Yet it isn’t long before the sparks that were once there are re-kindled and their complicated relationship takes an unusual turn.

Metalstorm, a movie within a movie, will be Jody Moreno’s directorial debut. And all she really wants is for the big budget flick to come together without any issues. However, with her ex-boyfriend on set as the stuntman and her leading man missing in action, it doesn’t seem like that’s going to happen.
But as they say, fake it till you make it, and the Emily Blunt The Fall Guy outfits definitely do that. Taking inspiration for her strong, effortless hipster style from some of the biggest female directors, Jody’s go-to garment is the utilitarian jumpsuit. Whether covered in a floral pattern or in a dusty rose pink, the comfortable short sleeve coveralls with a definite feminine edge give her that just thrown together unconscious styling.

So much so, in a recent interview, costume designer Sarah Evelyn said that although Jody’s wardrobe started with a jumpsuit, it wasn’t until Emily Blunt suggested adding a Hawaiian shirt underneath that the characters’ look finally came together.
So whether peeking out at the collar of a set of overalls, or worn with jeans and a matching t-shirt, Jody’s Hawaiian shirts are always bold, bright and statement making. Just like this red short sleeved button up shirt with its black and white monochromatic all over leaf pattern.

Maybe an unusual choice for the Emily Blunt The Fall Guy outfits, with the heavy-duty workwear from Carhartt more likely to be seen on the likes of Magic Mike himself. Although where he went for their acid washed denim jacket in Magic Mike’s Last Dance, Jody Moreno sticks with her love of busy patterns with the Carhartt WIP Irving coat. With the organic canvas work jacket featuring a brown paisley print, button front closure and triple pockets, that are all in keeping with the first-time directors relaxed and casual on-set styling.

There is only one accessory that Jody Moreno’s work wardrobe needed to scream director and that was a selection of simple, stylish hats. In particular her ball caps, which she wears in a couple of different colors. Including this two tone carmenere red and dark cream Caterpillar hat with its limited edition embroidered front graphic, that is quite fittingly called The Director Hat.

Colt Seavers, the aging stuntman that probably should have hung up his harness after his last stunt went horribly wrong, is back and making a comeback in Jody’s movie. However things are about to get pretty tricky because the famous action star he doubles for is missing, and it might just be up to Colt to find him.

Colt Seavers, the charismatic and mischievous stuntman whose job is to not stand out from the crowd, isn’t the only time that Ryan Gosling has played one of Hollywoods behind the scenes heroes. With similarities between Colt, and his role as the stunt driver turned criminal-for-hire in the 2011 movie Drive.
But their similarities don’t stop there, with both characters favoring statement making jackets, and in particular a bomber jacket. However in Drive it might have been a scorpion adorned white quilted satin, but the Ryan Gosling The Fall Guy outfits are all about his red lightweight bomber jacket with its white piping and ribbed hem and cuffs.
Although the red bomber jacket isn’t Colts only statement jacket with this leather motorbike jacket making more than one appearance.

It must have been just as important to Ryan, as it was for Colt Seavers, to have a little nod to the IATSE union in The Fall Guy, because one thing is for sure it is not easy to get permission to show a brand name or logo in a movie. But with the organization’s well-known emblem tweaked, almost completely redesigned and printed on a t-shirt it made for the perfect long sleeved white crew neck for Colt Seavers to partake in some all to real high speed car chases and escapes from some dangerous criminals.

There has always been more than just a “profresh” connection between Colt and Jody, and it’s not long before those sparks are flying again. The Fall Guy, Universal Pictures.
He might have abandoned his career and relationship with Jody when he got injured on his last job, but it isn’t long before the sparks are flying between them once more. With Colt’s desire to win her back seeing him going on a dangerous search for her movie’s lead star.
But this isn’t just all high octane action, there is plenty of romance and loved up looks across the wreckage of a car or two. Yet nothing is more pulse racing than the Ryan Gosling The Fall Guy outfits, and especially Colts red flannel plaid shirt, that we see him wearing to kiss Jody in one of the movie’s steamiest sequences.
The Smoulder Look and the Designer Sunglasses of Colt Seaver
With nerves of steel and a smoldering look to go with them, it might not be Colt Seavers only accessory but his most prominent is his selection of designer sunglasses. None more so than his American Optical Original Pilot Sunglasses worn by all the actors and stuntmen on Jody’s Metalstorm movie set. With the gold framed aviators even featuring a custom made leather side shield. However there is no denying that it is actually the sunflash gold mirrored lenses, perfectly reflecting the flames he is about to be lit up with that add some extra show stopping vibes to the stuntman’s eyewear.
With a cast full of some of today’s biggest actors including Aaron Taylor-Johnson who is rumored to be the next James Bond and Hannah Waddingham who played Rebecca Welton in Ted Lasso, it’ll come as no surprise that The Fall Guy is predicted to be this summer’s blockbuster. But really without Jody and Colt, their undeniable chemistry, comedic timing and pitch perfect The Fall Guy outfits would the action comedy really have the same impact?
Thankfully we will never have to find out, and instead we can just rewatch that steamy kiss one more time
