Antonio Citterio is an Italian furniture designer and industrial designer, currently working in Milan. He graduated from the Polytechnic Institute of Milan with a degree in architecture. At the age of only 18, he designed his first sofa, which won a prize and immediately went into production.

BACKSTAGE, THE NEW B&B ITALIA PROJECT FOR BEDROOMS IS DESIGNED BY ANTONIO CITTERIO. IT IS THE MOST INNOVATIVE AND INTERNATIONAL SOLUTION TO THE STORAGE PROBLEM OF TRADITIONAL WARDROBES. THE KEY FEATURE IS ITS REFINED AND SOPHISTICATED IMAGE: THE USE OF PRECIOUS MATERIALS, THE EXCLUSIVE FINISHING DETAILS, THE WIDE RANGE OF VARIANTS, THE BOISERIE EFFECT OF SURFACES DESIGNED FOR BACKSTAGE TO MERGE INTO VARIOUS SPACES, AND NOT ONLY INTO THE BEDROOM.

In 1972, he opened his own studio for architecture and interior design and has been working for leading design companies, including Vitra, B&B Italia, and Maxalto, a B&B Italia brand which he directs, ever since. In 1999, he opened Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel and Partners, a multidisciplinary practice that also produces industrial design and graphics. A prodigiously versatile designer, he has created everything from doorknobs to sofas, lamps, and bathroom fixtures. His pragmatic and timeless designs have won him much international acclaim, and he received the coveted Italian Compasso d’Oro prize for design in 1979 and 1987. He has created interiors for a number of stores around the world. In 2007, he became a member of the Italian Design Council.
