Netflix’s Sex Education: Highly Fashionable Season 4 Outfits
After three eventful years the doors of Moordale Secondary might be closed for good, but that doesn’t mean that the lessons are over…
By now you know the characters, you know the empowering plot stories and all about the sometimes eclectic but always stylish wardrobes of our students, and if you don’t you have a lot of homework to do. With Sex Education leading the way for Netflix to make a name for itself in the coming-of-age category, alongside new hits like Everything Now and Heartstopper, the fourth season had one more milestone left for us, College.
Away from the safe world of Moordale Secondary our teenage sex therapist, Otis and his friends face new challenges. With plenty of ups and downs, relationship dramas and a fresh social pecking order to navigate, nothing has really changed for the hapless crew. Especially not when it comes to their wardrobes, with the Sex Education season 4 outfits just as coveted and boundary pushing as before.
~Otis Milburn’s Sex Ed Season 4 Outfits~
For the show’s main protagonist, and socially awkward teenage sex therapist, Otis Milburn, life and love had just started to go his way. But with season four opening with his clumsy attempt at returning a sext to long distance girlfriend Maeve, it looks like his new start might not be as comfortable as his typical Sex Education wardrobe.
Otis and That Jacket
When it comes to the Sex Education wardrobe of Otis Milburn, there is nowhere else to start than with his striped jacket. A staple of his outfits from season one, all the way through the last episodes of season 4, the simple jacket with three large and bold stripes in cream, red and blue is as much a part of Otis’ story as his sex clinic.
And who knew that a basic lightweight bomber jacket with popper fastenings, and a cuffed hem and wrists, would be the look that the boundary pushing show would be most remembered for.
The Many Striped T-Shirts of Otis Milburn in Sex Education
Where other characters’ wardrobes got an exciting make-over to fit into their new college environments, Otis mainly stuck to his tried and tested chinos and striped t-shirts. Not nearly as interested in fashion, or how he looks, Otis’ selection of polo shirts and short sleeve tees are part of his signature style. Whether it is all over stripes or just a couple as a simple design feature, the subtle look is unassuming. Perfect to avoid standing out in the crowd.
Otis’ Quirky Suits in Sex Education Season Four
We are much more accustomed to seeing Asa Butterfield in his more relaxed and casual Otis Milburn wardrobe, opposed to these statement Sex Education season 4 outfits. Going for a bold and bright multicolored zig zag pattern when he wants to turn heads at Cavendish college, and win his election. But he reverts back to softer, subtler velvety browns, which fit his personality better, when trying to impress someone he actually loves.
~ Maeve Wiley’s Sex Ed Season 4 Outfits ~
Maeve Wiley, the witty, intelligent yet kind soul might be the girl who has had Otis’ head in a spin for three years, and who can blame him with the beautiful Emma Mackey playing the pessimistic and stylish feminist. But when season four starts, their trans-Atlantic long-distance relationship isn’t making either of them happy.
Maeve’s Denim Shirt in Sex Education Season Four
With a rebellious teenage look to die for, it is no wonder that we have already scrutinized the Maeve Wiley wardrobe of the earlier Sex Education seasons (check it out here). Yet her hair might have got darker, and she might have earned a place at the prestigious Wallace University in America, the Maeve Wiley outfits we’ve come to love are still the same. Just like this dark and moody H&M black wash denim shirt she wears in season four.
The Preppy School Girl Look with Maeve Wiley’s Dark Touch
Even when Maeve adds a touch of the preppy school girl look to her campus uniform, she still stays away from bold and bright colors, instead sticking to her almost always black color palette. The sweater vest, equally the classic garment of all nerds and scholars, is given the Maeve treatment in black and paired with her slightly too short mini-skirt and slightly too long white button-up shirt.
Maeve Wiley’s Leather Looks in Sex Education
Along with denim and plaid, the Maeve Wiley Sex Education season 4 outfits wouldn’t be complete without a few pieces in leather. From her typical leather jackets that she often wears with her oversized red plaid shirts, to her surprisingly soft and feminine skater skirt pinafore dress and maroon red mock-neck sweater she wore in episode 5. The resilient fabric is never far away in Maeve’s wardrobe.
~ Ruby Matthew’s Sex Ed Season 4 Outfits ~
If Sex Education season four is all about going on a journey and really finding yourself, then Ruby Matthews, the leader of The Untouchables at Moordale Secondary, might have the hardest challenge yet. Especially when she finds out that the students at Cavendish College aren’t impressed with her mean girl act, no matter how stylish she is.
The outfits, attitude and snide comments of Ruby Matthews.
Ruby Matthews Yellow Jacket in Sex Education Season Four
Ruby’s yellow jacket from season four will definitely be one of the looks she will be remembered for. The sunshine yellow, heavy cotton twill jacket with zip fastening and stud detailing, appears throughout the season and could be seen as a symbol of Ruby hiding her loneliness and isolation behind bright and cheerful colors.
Not used to not sitting at the top of the food chain, or all this being nice to each other, Ruby struggles to fit in and make friends. Choosing to change her look to be more inclusive of the colleges friendly attitude. But even her rainbow skirt, knit sweater and boots can’t stop her from sticking out like a sore thumb.
The Red Power Suit
When Otis needs help winning the sex therapist election, against her primary school bully, Ruby jumps at the chance to be his campaign manager. Sensing the opportunity to use her mean girl attitude once again, she arms herself with a red power suit, cat eye glasses and a clipboard. With the matching red tweed Mango mini-skirt and blazer the perfect armor not just for the dirty election campaign but for her strained relationship with Otis too.
Ruby’s Forever 21 Denim Cut Out Jumpsuit in Sex Education
Although most of Ruby’s Sex Education season 4 outfits are trend driven, colorful and have a very well put together feel about them, on occasion she does wear something a little bit more casual. Even if her casual and relaxed looks translate into a Forever 21 sleeveless denim cut-out bodysuit, in a light wash, that is no less stylish than any of her many mini-dresses she wears.
Ruby Matthew’s Sex Education Season Four Pink Dresses
Along with her yellow jacket that makes a number of appearances throughout the season, Ruby is a fan of the feminine and girly color pink. The perfect compliment to her complexion and long dark hair, Ruby’s season four wardrobe had a number of stunning dresses that left our teen looking pretty in pink.
But it isn’t just the color pink on its own that Ruby is most often seen wearing, especially when you know she is a big fan of bold, statement prints and patterns. Easily going from the large bohemian florals of her keyhole dress, to the delicate rose buds of her Topshop mini and pink and white tweed of a blazer dress.
~ Aimee Gibbs’ Sex Education Season 4 Outfits ~
Aimee Gibbs might be kind, sweet and have a nurturing nature that makes her everyone’s favorite friend. However, with her naivety and cluelessness, she is the one who ends up going on the biggest journey of self discovery throughout Sex Education’s four seasons. And that includes the transformation of her unique, yet very Aimee wardrobe.
Aimee Gibb’s Retro Styling in Season Four of Sex Education
Probably the most quirky of the Sex Education characters, Aimee’s wardrobe throughout the show has shunned the popular trend driven, or well put together looks of “The Untouchables.” But never really fitting in with their mean nature and bullying ways, Aimee left to make new friends and find her own style and character, and season four is the accumulation of that.
Still not sure how to express herself, Aimee tries different looks and one of those styles gives her a real retro feel to her clothes. From pussy bow blouses and neckerchiefs, to lace ruffles and double denim, Aimee could have stepped through time. Especially in her matching blue denim jeans and vest with its exaggerated collar, which had a true hippy 60’s vibe, that matched her ditzy and fun personality.

& Other Stories Tweed Check Mini-Dress Worn by Aimee Gibb in Sex Education Season Four
Another fan of patterns and prints, Aimee on her journey of self-acceptance, tries out tweeds and checks in a similar fashion to Ruby just in darker and less bold colors. Wealthy and able to spend her money without concern, Aimee still searches the fashionable high street and boutique stores to make up her looks. Going, this time, for a & Other Stories tweed check mini-dress in a navy, that she has added another of her classic white button-up shirts too.
Stripes, Stripes and More Stripes
When it comes to stripes Aimee could probably give Otis a run for his money with her Sex Education season 4 outfits. But unlike our protagonist, whose wardrobe is mainly made up of the stripey tops, Aimees are more subtle and spread out throughout her looks. Mostly in soft girly and feminine colors to balance out the bold print.
With both her striped turtleneck, simply paired with her dark blue wide leg jeans and her Zara stripe wrap blouse, that looks similar to one that Aimee wore at Moordale Secondary in the first season, being in pinks and reds. However it isn’t just shirts and blouses that get the stripey treatment, with Aimee even using the print on a pair of her satin pajamas we see her wearing in her bedroom.
Aimee’s Taking Back the Power Sequin Jacket
Maybe not one of Aimee’s most memorable looks throughout the show, but this sparkly sequin jacket and jeans look is definitely one of her most poignant. Not just the last look for Aimee in season four, this is the look where she took back control. No longer afraid after working through her trauma, Aimee burns those jeans she was sexually assaulted in, at the bus stop, ending her story with the closure she deserved.
~ Eric Effiong’s Sex Education Season 4 Outfits ~
If there has been one character throughout Sex Education who has constantly been a fashion icon, then it has definitely been the louder than life Eric Effiong. But that doesn’t mean season four didn’t have some last tricks up its sleeve for the bright personality, who has spent the show’s four year run learning self-love and acceptance.
Eric’s Bold (and clashing) Statement Prints in Sex Education Season Four
When you study the wardrobe of Sex Educations Eric Effiong, played with great energy and tact by up and coming star Ncuti Gatwa, the first thing that hits you in the face is his use of bold colorful prints. Having never found a pattern or bright color that he doesn’t like, Eric opts for the more is more approach to dressing.
Everything from turquoise paisley print, to loud and eclectic florals have been seen on his shirts, shorts, pants and selection of jackets. A highlight of his season four outfits definitely being his pink rose bud adorned yellow puffer vest, that he expertly paired with clashing patterned pants. A trick that Eric uses often, because you can never have too many different prints in one outfit.
COLLUSION Green Shredded Vest, Yellow Harness and Matching Kilt
Even when you are the character who already has the most out there, striking fashion sense coming into season four, doesn’t mean that your looks can’t be taken up another notch. And that is exactly what happens with Eric. Not afraid to express himself, or what he stands for, the openly gay student finds another level when surrounded by a supportive study environment at Cavendish college. Seeing him add a risky body harness to his already eccentric yellow kilt and shredded vest.
Eric Effiongs Fudd Arcadia Boiler Suit in Season Four of Sex Education
As much as Eric’s outfits stand out from the crowd, and give him the sort of confidence to express who he really is that most people only dream of, his clothes alone don’t make his looks. Just like this bold and colorful printed Fudd Arcadia boiler suit that fits Eric’s eclectic and fun personality, that is ultimately enhanced by the use of his beautiful make-up styling. Gemstones, glitter, bold eyeshadows and guy-liner, Eric is up for anything and knows just what each of his statement outfits need to give them that extra edge.
Eric’s Sex Education Season Four Brilliantly Sparkly Outfits
After many wobbles over his faith and family’s religious views, Eric, who wants to be a pastor on leaving college, spoke to God who took the form of Jodie Turner-Smith. Reassuring Eric that he is exactly how the almighty made him, the outgoing and bold character added some extra sparkle to his Sex Education season 4 outfits with sequins and glistening silver leather.
It is hard to believe that after four rollercoaster years it is time to wave goodbye to the stars of Moordale Secondary, and Cavendish College. From sexual assault, to religion and teenage sex therapists, the show had no fears about delving into troubling subjects, all while the stars wore a killer outfit or two. But the Sex Education season 4 outfits might just be the best of the lot. But the only way to be certain would be to enroll at Moordale Secondary once more, and start at the beginning.
