Before we move on to the costume – Who is Puss in Boots?

Puss in Boots is a character from the Shrek franchise. He made his first appearance in the 2004 film, Shrek 2,  where he became a companion to Shrek after he was hired to assassinate him but failed.

Puss in Boots, who is sometimes called Puss, was created by Tom Hester and was inspired in part by the Italian fairy tale character of the same name. Hester combined characteristics of real cats with traits from the characters  Zorro and Indiana Jones to create the Spanish speaking, suave warrior known today as Puss in Boots.

Puss was voiced by Antonio Banderas in the film which helped give him that debonair, Spanish vibe.

The look of Puss in Boots will be easy and fun to recreate

Puss in Boots really knows how to put on the charm making him quite a “ladies cat”. Although he’d rather be called a fierce warrior he could also be called adorable with his big round eyes and sweet innocent face that he uses to his advantage when the opportunity arises.

Puss in Boots Make-Up Tutorial

To create a Puss in Boots costume it would be great to start with a full cat bodysuit with fur the orangish brown color of Puss. If you think the full suit of fur will be too hot or too hard to find you can improvise and still turn out an excellent costume.

  • Start with a medieval style white tunic tucked into the waist of a pair of brown Renaissance style pants that are banded at the ankle.
  • You’ll next add a black belt with a sword and scabbard attached as well as a pair of tall boots (sometimes referred to as Corinthian boots) and a short black cape.
  • Top it off with a black Spanish brimmed hat, a cat’s tail, and a cat’s nose and whiskers, and voila, you have achieved the suave playboy look of a savage warrior, Puss in Boots.

You can set out on your next whirlwind adventure in style.
