The Eiza González The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare Outfits and their 1940’s Bespoke Charm
With its inspiration firmly based in the true story of Britain’s first Special Forces Operatives, it was hardly a surprise to see The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare directed by the country’s man of the moment, Guy Ritchie. Yet it is relative newcomer Eiza González, who really steals the spotlight as the formidable Marjorie Stewart. Although her outlandish gun-touting action sequences, seductive serenading and surprising part in the World War II fight back against the Nazis, is nothing compared to her vintage 1940’s Eiza González The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare outfits.
But before we can talk about everything fashion, first we need to know who the Special Operations Executive actually were…
The SOE or Special Operations Executive
The predecessors of what we would know today as Black Ops and Irregular Warfare, SOE or Special Operations Executive, was the brainchild of British Wartime Prime Minister Winston Churchill. Over 13,000 members strong, Guy Ritchie’s movie based on the Damien Lewis book, focuses on a select few in the Small Scale Raiding Force, who used their unusual skillset to sabotage the enemy, and fight back against the Nazis.
While adding a healthy dose of Ritchie fictionalization to really ramp up the big screen drama.
Marjorie Stewart’s 1940’s Bespoke Skirt Suits
Marjorie Stewart, surely received the biggest hit of fictionalized story telling when it comes to The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. Later to go on and marry Gus March-Phillipps, played here by Henry Cavill, there is no record of her being an agent let alone a secret one.
But why waste the phenomenal talents of Eiza González, who we recently dissected the wardrobe of as Auggie Salazar in 3 Body Problem. A far cry from the rollneck sweaters and modern shirts and pants of Auggie, the Eiza González The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare outfits perfectly reflect the charm of the 1940’s wartime era.
Particularly with her selection of two-piece skirt suits, a typical and versatile look favored by the women of the decade. Seen here in her pretty, yet practical brown wool skirt and matching jacket. Accessorized with a bold patterned silk scarf, the double collared button front jacket nips in at the waist before going back out to create the perfect hourglass silhouette. While lying beautifully over her pleated midi-length skirt.
Eiza González’s Floral Patterned Dress as Marjorie Stewart in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare
It is not hard to see that costume designer LouLou Bontemps has a love for the fashions of the 1940’s and 50’s, with the time and detail she has put into the bespoke Eiza González The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare outfits.
The designer, whose name is everywhere at the moment, most recently created the looks for Guy Ritchie’s Netflix The Gentlemen series. Including the equally formidable lady incharge Susie Glass, who you could say has one or two things in common with Marjorie. Like being underestimated…
But when Marjorie with her perfectly coiffed hair and statement vintage make-up, wears her deep burgundy floral dress it is little wonder that nobody knows how dangerous she is. Made of an embroidery covered heavy satin, in that rich reddish-brown color, the hourglass enhancing dress with the collared v-front neckline, matching frog closures and prominent puff sleeves is the perfect pretty and innocent looking nod to the decade.
Marjorie Stewarts Modern 1940’s Hair and Make-up in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare
It might have been wartime and she might have been a secret agent, but Marjorie Stewart never missed an opportunity to have her hair and make-up done to 1940’s perfection. A big industry during the decade, with a world war not even stopping its progress, it wasn’t unusual to see glamorous looks with darker eyes and bold eyelashes contrasting a woman’s powder compact covered face. Yet no look was complete without a splash of bold and bright red lipstick. With it quickly becoming a weapon for victory over Hitler and his Nazis, considering the German leaders’ hatred for the statement lip color fearlessly worn by the women of the time.
Marjorie’s Sexy Silky Gown and Seductive Serenade of Mack the Knife
White silk was the perfect choice for Marjorie to appear as innocent as she does sexy.
A little bit of this and a little bit of that really is the definition of the life of a Secret Agent. So it is no surprise then, when Marjorie takes to the stage for a pitch perfect, and seductive rendition of Mack the Knife.
Looking every inch the epitome of a lounge singer, it was hard to pull your eyes away from the beautiful Eiza González in her silky slip of a dress. The soft, yet stark white silk shimmered from the stage, as the low plunging back, v-front and halter neck straps contrasted her long and loosely curled dark hair, to ramp up the sex appeal.
But it wasn’t the only time that one of the Eiza González The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare outfits got pulses racing, if this fancy dress party costume look as Cleopatra is anything to go by.
Eiza González’s Denim Two-Piece as Marjorie Stewart in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare
Denim was still an unusual fabric for the women of the 1940’s to wear unless of course they were working, having taken over the roles that would have once been filled by the men who were currently at war. But luckily for Marjorie she was a law unto herself, both working and highly unusual when it came to what was expected of the women of the decade.
Particularly when it came to her ability to handle herself in a fight, and especially if that fight involved firearms, or even the odd grenade. Described as being able to out shoot your best man, the movie clip below shows a slightly unhinged Marjorie taking great pleasure in living up to the title of highly skilled soldier.
While looking every inch the modern woman in her, once again bespoke made, Eiza González The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare outfits. With the use of the sturdy and resilient denim, in the dark blue wash, to make Marjorie a matching two-piece co-ord set. Featuring a pair of high-waist, wide leg pants with prominent front pockets, that match her fitted cropped denim jacket with its simple collar, button front fastenings and shape enhancing style lines.
There is no denying the story of The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare’s great significance to not only the Second World War and its eventual outcome, but to the on-going role of protecting our home nation’s now-a-days as well. However Guy Ritchie has opted to give the whole thing a somewhat chaotic and comedic make-over.
Yet even with a cast stuffed with big star names, guns galore and plenty of explosions it is still hard to not be drawn in by the Eiza González The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare outfits. And with the most costume changes, and her perfect 1940’s vintage style bespoke charm who could really blame you.
