Who are Jasper and Horace?
In the 1961 Walt Disney animated masterpiece, One Hundred and One Dalmatians, the evil Cruella De Vil (here you can find our costume tutorial) hires brothers Jasper and Horace Baduns to kidnap 15 dalmatian puppies that she plans to have a spotted fur coat made out of.
The brothers are lowly crooks who are out to make a buck in any way that they can.
The characters were created by Dodie Smith and originally the brothers’ names were Jasper and Saul in the 1956 novel, The Hundred and One Dalmatians, written by Smith.
Dressing up as Jasper and Horace from One Hundred and One Dalmatians is very easy to do
They may be brothers, but Jasper and Horace’s physical appearances have nothing in common. Jasper is tall and very slim. He is short-tempered, loud mouth, and is considered to be the brains of the operation. Horace is short and fat. He is often very hesitant about committing crimes. He is considered the muscle of the duo. The Baduns brothers are extremely similar to another pair of crooks introduced many years later, the Wet Bandits, Larry, and Marv, from Home Alone.
Dressing up as Jasper and Horace from One Hundred and One Dalmatians is actually very easy.
Each person will need basically the same items but vary the colors and prints slightly. You both need a pair of slacks, a sweater and overcoat. Stick with browns, grays and greens to get the desired look. Next, a pair of oxford shoes and a newsboy type hat. Wool and corduroy make great choices in the fabric of the items. The final items will be weapons. Jasper will need a fireplace poker and Horace needs a table leg or chair leg. In a matter of no time, you can create your very own Jasper and Horace costumes.
